Need for visionary leadership in Edinburgh to match continental best practice on active travel
John Webster, who prepared Transform Scotland's response to the consultation, said:
"It is important to stress that the economic impacts of increasing mode share for walking and cycling could be substantial, bringing multi-billion pound savings to Scotland and this can be done by making walking and cycling in Scotland's cities easier and more enjoyable. This will likely attract more people from Europe who are accustomed to such facilities in their own cities. This requires modest resources but substantial vision and leadership.
"Edinburgh needs to have a bold vision from the start, based on what is known to work, rather than making small improvements that will have only a slight impact on cycling numbers and may actually be counter-productive by allowing critics to ridicule what has been achieved."
