City Square proposal for Aberdeen
Transform Scotland's response to the online consultation made the following points:
We are opposed to this development on the grounds that it provides for 490 car parking spaces. For a city centre site at the heart of the city's public transport network, this is an unacceptable level of car parking provision.
The proposal is in clear conflict with the Scottish Government's Scottish Planning Policy (Ferbruary 2010) which states, inter alia:
"Significant travel-generating uses should be in locations which are well served by public transport and the amount of associated car parking permitted should be controlled to encourage more sustainable travel choices." (section 167)
On the other hand, we understand that the Peacock proposal provides for no increase in car parking.
Should the 'City Square Project' continue with the level of car parking provision set out in the current proposals then we would seek to lodge a formal objection to the proposals should they proceed to detailed planning application stage.
